Bio
In 1987 after receiving her BA in English Literature from the University of Chicago, Karolyn Hatton left the US to live in London for the next 12 years. There she developed her studio practice and taught in art colleges and in further education. She completed a BFA with Honors in Photography from University of the Arts, London in 1995 and an MFA in Visual Arts from Goldsmiths College, London, in 1999. She has lived and worked in Queens, New York since 2000 where she explores both traditional and nontraditional forms of making using textiles, found objects, and text.
She has shown in the US and abroad in exhibitions including: Over Under Sideways Down, Artport, Kingston, NY (2022), When We First Arrived…, The Corner at Whitman-Walker, Washington DC, (2020); Malevolent Eldritch Shrieking, Attercliffe TM, Sheffield, UK, and Woskob Family Gallery, State College, PA, (2018); Black Ball Projects, Brooklyn (2016, 2017); Dorsky Gallery Curatorial Program, Long Island City (2010); Queens Museum (2009). Her work has appeared in the New York Times Online, The Brooklyn Rail, and the Boston Globe. She has collaborated with painter/critic Julian Kreimer on various curatorial projects including Studio Sessions (2013) and Quiet Riot, March Gallery (2007).
